Museum education Oder-Warta

On behalf of the district of Märkisch-Oderland, ECCOFORT analysed the conditions for the implementation of joint museum education at the Seelow Heights Memorial (DE) and the MRU Museum Oder-Warthe Fortress Arch (PL).

A concept was developed for the "Development and implementation of a joint concept for museum education" as part of the funding project "On the path of shared history" of the European Regional Development Fund, cooperation programme for cross-border cooperation (INTERREG VA BB-PL 2014-2020).

One of the aims of the funding project was to expand "museum education" in both countries, in particular on the history of the Second World War and the war experiences in 1945 in the Oder-Warthe region. Extracurricular places of learning on both sides of the German-Polish border are to develop programmes that convey the shared history and the lessons learnt from it to young generations in a sustainable way.

Result

With regard to the task of developing networked cross-border museum education at the two locations MRU and GMSH, there are currently significant reasons that stand in the way of a sustainable joint educational programme. However, these obstacles are of a general nature and must be considered and removed from an overarching perspective. In the following, some recommendations are given as examples to support the development, networking and sustainable implementation of extracurricular learning programmes and educational trips in the region. Possible focal points could be

  • Creation of a common information base on extracurricular learning opportunities in the region,
  • Networking and cross-border coordination of museum education / educational trips in the region,
  • Development of cross-border educational travel offers, also inclusive, along existing public transport routes, etc,
  • Schaffung geeigneter Infrastrukturen für die Durchführung dt.-pl. Lernfahrten – an den außerschulischen Lernorten sowie in der Grenzregion.

The project was funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Cooperation Programme for Cross-border Cooperation (INTERREG VA BB-PL 2014-2020).
